When plumbing issues happen, you should be able to call on a reliable plumber. We say reliable, because there are so many sketchy plumbers out there who do mediocre work and charge more than what you’d be willing to pay.
This is why we came up with this comprehensive review on the best, top-rated plumbers in Toronto. We covered everything – from their competency to the products they use, up to their range of services and how to get in touch with them.
How much is a plumber per hour in Toronto?
Plumbers in Toronto charge anywhere from $45 to $200 per hour. It’s important to note that the cost will vary depending on the job to be done, your location, and the level of expertise your preferred plumber has.
Typically, an apprentice plumber charges $45 to $90 per hour. A journeyman, on the other hand, may set you back $70 to $120 per hour, while a master plumber may cost $90 to a whopping $200 per hour.
These hourly rates are inclusive of their labour fee, insurance premiums, equipment, tools, and more. However, this usually excludes transportation fees, so set aside a couple of dollars for that as well.
The final cost will also depend on the plumbing service you need. Below are some of the most common plumbing projects and their average prices according to HomeAdvisor:
Take note that these are only average costs and are subject to change depending on the plumber you’ll be hiring.

Tornado Plumbing & Drains was founded in 2015, but its quality is on par with its longer-standing competitors.
These include Water Service Upgrades, Sewer Drain Cleaning, Catch Basin & French Drain Installation, Backwater Valve Installation, and Sewage Line Replacement. As a result, Tornado Plumbing is ideal for residential and commercial needs.
However, we should inform clients that this plumbing service is closed on Sundays. That can be a deal-breaker for many since the weekends are the most convenient times to schedule and supervise repairs.
The company website doesn’t provide price estimates for some services. For example, Tornado charges foundation waterproofing solutions at around $120 per linear foot. On the other hand, you’ll have to request a quotation to get a cost for the water service upgrade.
It was also hard to read some of its web pages because the text colors blended with the background. This can frustrate some customers once they see that some details seem to be blank in some of the information pages.
Besides these drawbacks, Tornado Plumbing & Drains is available 24/7 for emergency plumbing services, including basement flooding assistance. Its quality allowed it to earn the HomeStar’s Best of Award seven years in a row since 2019.
Tornado doesn’t offer a warranty, but the company promises that “every job is done right, on time, and with minimal disruption.”
Pros
- Wide range of services
- Available 24/7 for emergency cases
- HomeStars Award Winner 7 years in a row
Cons
- Pricing not available for numerous services
- Some online text blends with the background, making it hard to read
Customer Reviews
“Sergey and his team redid my entire Alderwood bungalow. Moved drains, all new water lines, roughed in two washrooms etc. The work was great and they are all pleasant to have around. Price was good and they were very timely. I highly recommend them.
Dave Loveless” — Dave L., Yelp“We had a great experience with Tornado (especially Serhiy). We called the company number as we were having trouble with plumbing in our kitchen and bathroom. We were referred to Serhiy by some friends of ours and man were we grateful for this. Serhiy showed up right on time, assessed the problem quickly and advised us of our options. He completed the work and kept things neat. He also gave us some great tips on what to avoid doing so we don’t run into the same problem again. It was our first time working with Serhiy and it’s great to know that we have someone who we can go to who is dependable and knowledgeable in this space. We highly recommend!” — Priya T., Yelp

Established over 96 years ago, A Alert Drain stands out as one of the oldest plumbing companies in Toronto. They offer a wide range of plumbing services at relatively affordable prices, which explains their large customer base.
Note, however, that there’s a $100 price difference between their regular rates and overtime rates. Weekends, holidays, and the hours between 3:00 PM to 7:30 AM on weekdays are already considered overtime rates.
The weekends and holidays, we can forgive. But, we think it’s odd (and expensive!) to consider anything past 3:00 PM on a weekday to be counted as overtime already.
We do appreciate that their rates are upfront, though, so no shockers there when it comes to the final bill.
Putting that aside, we love that they’re open 24/7, so clients with plumbing emergencies even during the wee hours of the night can be accommodated. In some cases, they can be at your home in as quick as half an hour!
Even more impressive is that they utilise state-of-the-art equipment in plumbing jobs to accurately assess the situation and swiftly deliver results.
There’s not much of a warranty when it comes to their services, though. But it is part of their guarantee to adequately perform their services, or they’ll come back to give it another go at no additional cost.
Pros
- Has been in business for over 96 years
- Upfront pricing
- Available 24/7 for emergency cases
- Makes use of state-of-the-art equipment
Cons
- Expensive and odd overtime fees
- Doesn’t offer much of a warranty
Customer Reviews
Professional, excellent job
“A Alert Drain was recommended by my brother. They gave me a price and made an appointment over the phone. They showed up on time, were very professional and did an excellent job. They invited me to inspect what they had done. They didn’t try to upsell me on anything. What more could anyone ask for.” — David Warga, Google Reviews
Prompt and fair prices
“A Alert was recommended to me by a plumber friend whose company uses their services and I can see why. After a horrible experience with a previous plumbing company over a recurring flood in our basement, we called A Alert. They were able to come immediately and took their time to investigate the problem looking through every drain. Eventually, they were able to identify the problem and come back within a couple days to fix it. Fair prices, especially compared to other plumbing services. Will definitely be recommending them.” — Cathy Mai, Google Reviews

Everest Drain & Plumbing is a locally-owned plumbing company that caters to residential homes, commercial buildings, and industrial complexes. In just a little over a decade, they’ve managed to gather a loyal clientele with strong referrals.
Quality is at the forefront of their work, and one of their ways in doing so is by hiring only licenced, bonded, and insured plumbers. They guarantee that if a client isn’t happy with the results, their plumbers will redo everything sans added costs.
Their company is always transparent about their pricing, while keeping them as affordable as possible. No overcharging here; they believe that everyone should have access to dependable plumbing services, which we appreciate and commend.
Apart from the usual plumbing repairs and maintenance, they’re also open for consultations, which is great. In particular, they provide insight on designs and installations of plumbing systems for both residential and commercial spaces.
While they claim to offer 24/7 emergency services, we’ve heard of some clients being told that they have an extremely limited number of plumbers available. We think that they should hire more plumbers to avoid more of these incidents.
Apparently, they also tend to upsell their services. While some clients don’t mind, we understand how others would find this unnecessary and to a point, annoying.
Pros
- Hires only licenced, bonded, and insured plumbers
- Upfront and relatively affordable pricing
- Open for design and installation consultations
Cons
- Instances of not being able to accommodate emergency services
- Tends to upsell services

Preferred Plumbing Solutions is a firm that helps clients with residential plumbing issues. They’re fully-insured, licenced, and bonded, so it’s safe to say that you’ll be in capable hands with them.
They’re also a current bearer of the Red Seal Certificate and OWWA backflow Prevention Licence, which speaks volumes about the quality of their services.
We like that they can deal with a variety of brands and even have access to particular replacement components. This ensures clients of professional fixes and long-lasting solutions to their plumbing issues.
They also offer a no-payment guarantee for clogs they can’t clear, but take note that this only applies to plumbing fixtures.
We appreciate, too, that they not only give an exact diagnosis and bring necessary supplies, but they also clean up properly once the entire plumbing work is completed. You’d be surprised how many other plumbers don’t clean up after themselves.
While they offer same-day emergency services, know that they are typically closed on weekends. Unfortunately, that does mean you need to fit them in your weekday schedule.
Note, also, that they’re only able to service a limited area within Greater Toronto. It’s best to call and ask if they’re able to cover your property.
Pros
- Insured, licenced, and bonded plumbers
- Holder of a Red Seal Certificate and OWWA backflow Prevention License
- Offers no-payment guarantees for still-clogged plumbing fixtures
- Respectful of homes and cleans up after every project
Cons
- Works only on residential properties

If you’re in need of rush plumbing services, you might want to check out Priority Plumbing & Drains. It’s one of the few plumbing companies around that’s open for same-day plumbing services, emergencies or not.
They pride themselves on employing only highly-skilled and capable plumbers – all of whom have received proper training and have years of experience.
We also love the fact that all their installation services come with a lifetime warranty. In case of a recurring problem, they’ll send one of their plumbers to fix it at no additional cost.
Most of their clients don’t need to avail of this, though, as they also offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. As the name implies, if you’re not completely satisfied with their services, you won’t need to pay.
That said, all these come at steep prices. Their rates are significantly more expensive, and we’ve heard of some complaints regarding hidden fees or non-transparent breakdowns of fees.
Upon calling them for help, one of their plumbers will be at your doorstep within hours, ready to fix the problem. And if the plumber fails to show up on time, clients won’t have to pay for anything.
The problem that some of their clients experience with this is that they tend to reschedule appointments they can’t reach on time. This tends to throw off someone’s entire schedule and is quite inconvenient.
Pros
- Offers same-day plumbing services
- Lifetime warranties and 100% satisfaction guarantees for all installation services
- Licenced, bonded, and insured plumbers
Cons
- Significantly more expensive fees
- Has had issues with punctuality

Professionalism and quality
“When I first bought my house, I called Priority to update some of the pipes in my basement and they did a great job! So when I recently had an issue with my upstairs plumbing, I called them again. Even though it was a small job, they sent someone out right away. The plumber that arrived was Adam. I was surprised that he remembered the initial work done at my home since it was a long time ago. He was able to identify and fix the new issue very quickly. He also took a quick look over all the plumbing in my home to ensure there were no other problems. I would highly recommend Priority Plumbing and Drains – they are reliable, consistent with their work and really care about their customers!” — Anja S, Google Reviews
Friendly and honest
“Aaron did a fantastic job. We had called to get our slow draining kitchen sink and toilet looked at. He walked us through a full inspection of the issues, checked all our plumbing to see if they were all in working order and was thorough in his work. He raised any issues that may be of concern and priced out a work order that worked within our budget. He was professional, friendly and honest. I highly recommend Aaron for any job that needs to be done and will definitely use him again. Thank you for your work Aaron!” — April Suen, Google Reviews

They provide an extensive range of plumbing services for both residential and commercial properties. And, they don’t focus on repairs alone, but on installation and maintenance as well.
Though they have regular office hours daily, they do accommodate 24/7 emergency services. What’s great is that they don’t charge extra fees for weekend, overnight, and holiday work – an offer that most clients on a budget take advantage of.
We also love how frequently they run amazing deals and promotions. If you’re lucky, you can score up to $400 off on their waterproofing services or $300 off a main drip replacement on their website.
Another thing we like about them is their use of modern, specialised equipment. One of which is their hydro jetter, a commercial-grade machine that can drain out sewer line debris with highly-pressurised water.
And don’t worry, their licenced, bonded, and insured plumbers are all trained and well-versed in the use of such equipment and more.
We do wish they’d train their plumbers and staff members in better customer treatment, though. Apparently, several clients have complained of rude personnel.
We’ve also heard reports of some of their plumbers not arriving on time. Others would even call on the last hour window to inform them to simply reschedule.

Efficient and respectful
“Tony came to patiently listen, gave an estimate on what was required, and work was done on the scheduled day, for the estimated amount. Bathroom lead waste pipes were replaced as they were corroded and leaking. The crew worked in a tight space, were neat, clean and respectful of the rest of the house. Would highly recommend.” — Nilla Michieli, Google Reviews
Quick and thorough
“Our shower faucet broke in the middle of the night and was constantly running water, so we called Brothers Plumbing’s 24hr number and got a lovely women who took our information and said we’d get a call in the morning from the plumber with a quote and a timeframe (in the meantime we had our building shut off all water to the bathroom). We got the call promptly around 9am, the plumber came by 10:30am, and fixed it by 11am. He was professional, quick and thorough, and price was as quoted and seemed reasonable. Completely pleased with how things went, and would absolutely recommend to others.” — Sarah Murphy, Google Reviews

Mr. Rooter Plumbing is a trusted plumbing company that services most of Toronto and York, providing plumbing services to residential homes and commercial spaces.
It’s one of the many plumbers that cater to both, but it’s the only one that doesn’t charge overtime fees. So if the problem ends up taking longer to fix, then you at least don’t need to worry about extra fees.
We appreciate, too, that they provide upfront pricing. Though significantly more expensive than some, there are no hidden charges and you’re given a clear picture of what you’ll be paying for.

One thing we’d like them to work on is better customer service. Apparently, some of their plumbers were reported to be rude and condescending to clients.

Leaside Plumbing and Heating was established way back in 1985. Since then, they’ve been a full-service plumbing and heating company with a reputation for quality work and relatively affordable rates.
They’re a licenced, bonded, and fully-insured company. This means that their plumbers are all extensively-trained and experts in the repair and maintenance of any plumbing issue.
And, they offer 1-year warranties for materials and labour they’ve provided. Not the best warranty deal out there, but at least they have one for clients’ peace of mind.
Because they’re a local business, they’re knowledgeable when it comes to older piping systems that you’ll still find in many Toronto homes.
So many plumbers nowadays will tell you to simply update your pipes. But if you’re not ready for expensive, major overhauls, it’s good to know that they’re someone you can call.
We also like that they respond quickly and assess each project depending on urgency. This enables them to manage their schedules better, so that they don’t over-promise timeframes to their clients.
Unfortunately, we’ve heard that they typically pile on hidden fees that increase the initial price estimates. Their bills typically come out significantly more expensive than other quotations.
Pros
- Has been in business since 1985
- Insured, licenced, and bonded plumbers
- Knowledgeable in older piping systems
- Arrives promptly on scheduled appointments
Cons
- Limited warranty offering
- Reports of hidden fees

We were waiting weeks to find someone who was able to remove one of our radiators and were so happy to hear back so quickly from Leaside Plumbing! Dylan came out to our house with his partner and they were very friendly, well groomed, patient and professional. They completed the task I initially requested and went above and beyond to give me some information about my gas fireplace and other electrical/plumbing systems in my house. The service was outstanding. I will definitely use them again in the future.” — Mandy C, Google Reviews
